Community Outreach
At Malabar Hill, our commitment to uplifting the local community is woven into every aspect of our ethos. From spearheading home gardening initiatives that generate employment and nurture the natural environment, to fostering a culture of sustainable growth, we believe in progress that benefits all.
Local Hiring, Teaching and Training
We prioritise local talent, ensuring that our daily operations directly support and enrich the surrounding villages. This includes sponsoring scholarships for children, providing resources and teacher allowances for the temple-based nursery school, and offering hands-on training programmes that blend theory with practice—creating pathways for long-term opportunity.
Women’s Empowerment & Batik Workshops
Our batik home factory provides women with skills, tools, and employment to craft stunning textiles that celebrate local culture. We are also using a seamstress from our village to up-cycle & recycle discarded linen into laundry & shopping bags, coasters for drinks and handtowels for our washrooms.
Transportation & Taxi Service
Even our transport and taxi services are community-driven, operated by four families from nearby villages, including those bordering our Beach Shack in Mirissa. Every journey taken is a step toward shared prosperity.
Vegetable Gardens, Village Gardens & Buffalo Curd
We source ingredients locally wherever possible, celebrating the abundance of our surrounding region. While our garden currently provides only a modest quantity of what we need, we hope to one day becoming fully self-sufficient. In the meantime, each harvest of tomatoes becomes Tomato Carpaccio, pineapples are transformed into our signature Cinnamon Pineapple Jam, and homegrown chillies, bitter gourd, spinach, and sweet potatoes find their way into vibrant salads and seasonal dishes. Cassava is crisped into chips, perfect alongside sundowners.
One of our gardeners also supplies us with rich, home-crafted buffalo curd—enough to meet all our needs, and a beautiful example of what’s possible when nature and nurture work hand in hand.
