At Malabar Hill, we honour Sri Lanka’s rich natural heritage, placing its preservation at the heart of everything we do. We endeavour to cultivate a sanctuary that is both sustainable and breathtaking—a place from which guests can experience the island’s extraordinary beauty with care and reverence.

Malabar Hill was born from the vision of founders Lawson Johnston—whose passion for design and the natural world shapes every detail—and Dominic Scriven, who champions the harmony between luxurious hospitality and wildlife conservation.

We strive to ensure that our hilltop retreat is fuel vehicle-free, save for electric tuk-tuks that silently glide through the landscape. On rare occasions, it does however become necessary to use fuelled tuk-tuks and other motor bikes as the operation demands.

Every menu celebrates organic, homegrown, and locally sourced ingredients, and our commitment to being single-use plastic free is unwavering.

We work hand-in-hand with the local community, supporting regenerative farming and safeguarding the surrounding wilderness. At our core is a belief: that deep experience and understanding of nature will inspire generations to protect it.
