Architecture

Perched on a hilltop of lush tropical landscape, between the mountains and the sea, Malabar Hill is in prime position to enjoy the highlights of Sri Lanka’s biodiversity.

Inspired by a lifetime of travel, designer Lawson Johnston gathered influence from extensive exploration of Sri Lanka and the surrounding region, which laid the foundations of the 10 year design process to create Malabar Hill.
As a result, Malabar Hill is an ode to bespoke design and artisan craftsmanship, from locally handmade terracotta roof and floor tiles through to reclaimed timber doors and windows.

The variance of architectural features throughout Malabar Hill echo these inspirations, and Sri Lankan influences remove the boundaries between you and the natural world, whilst providing luxurious accommodation and living space. With minimal obstruction to the surrounding environment and use of sustainable, locally sourced materials, the design provides seamless living space with elements built into the foundations, for a modern and open plan feel. These features are combined with antique interiors and bespoke furniture for a luxuriously bohemian sense of style.”
